The modern idea that church is a building or even a denomination was not in the original Greek term which was translated as church in the English Bible. The church began as a local society of saints. Our local church is such a society, made up of individuals who have made a covenant with God by way of sacrifice, as per Psalm 50:5 and Hebrews 9:26, by accepting Jesus' finished work on the cross as an atonement for our sin against God. Each church member has then accepted the Lord's ordinance of water baptism and will consistently partake of the Lord's Supper as a sign of continued fellowship with Him. Our members meet weekly for doctrine, rebuke, correction, and instruction in right living from God's Word.

The ministries of Abounding Grace Baptist Church are outreaches of the church members. As our church grows in membership and in personal graces and talents, our outreaches will multiply and change. These outreaches should always reflect our purpose and should be founded on Bible principles.

Pastor Jonathan Oehlert has been in Christian ministry for several decades. He married Angela Ream in 1999 and was ordained as a minister of the gospel by Midwestern Baptist Church the following year. Our extra mid-week Bible studies are subject and series oriented. We have studied subjects like How We Got The Bible; How To Study the Bible; How To Understand The Bible; The Twelve/ The Minor Prophets; Bible Principles For Business And Leadership; Old Testament Survey; and Soteriology.

Our bread ministry was founded by the late Larry Weatherbee. He began with taking donated bread to low income housing, senior centers, and to schools for breakfast programs. Today our expanded donations from bakeries, grocery stores, and coffee houses is used to lighten the load of many burdened people. Our aim is to give strength to our fellow community members and to remind them that we can also provide that spiritual bread from Heaven for their hungry souls.

The ladies of Abounding Grace get together for fellowship, sharing, encouragement, prayer, and review of Sunday sermons. Sometimes they meet at tea with a Bible; at times, they have met at a coffee house or restaurant. Always, thee goal is to uplift and strengthen their fellow sisters in Christ.

Each Sunday morning, our main public service is shared by livestream on Facebook, as Abounding Grace Baptist Church in Coquitlam.

Our church members share our part of Jesus' Great Commission to get the gospel into all the world.

The Word of God is scripture inspired by God, holy, inerrant, and preserved to be used as our final authority for all faith and practice. The King James Bible is the inerrant Word of God for English speaking people.
God We believe in the One True God: who is an intelligent, sovereign, spiritual, and personal Being; perfect, infinite, and eternal in His being, holiness and love, wisdom and power; absolutely separate from and above the world as its Creator, yet everywhere present in the world as the Upholder of all things. He is revealed to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, three distinct persons but without division of nature, essence or being, and each having a distinct ministry in God’s relation to His creation and people.
Jesus We believe in the Lord Jesus Christ: who is the second Person of the Triune God, the eternal Word and Only Begotten Son; that without any change in His divine Person, He became man by miracle of the Virgin Birth, thus to continue forever as both true God and true Man; that as Man He was tempted in all points as we are, yet without sin; that as the perfect Lamb of God He gave Himself in death by the shedding of His blood upon the cross, bearing there the sin of the world, and suffering its full penalty of Divine wrath in our stead; that He arose from the grave in a glorified body; that as our great High Priest He ascended into Heaven, there to appear before the face of God as our Advocate and Intercessor.
The Holy Spirit We believe in the Holy Spirit: who is the Third Person of the Trinity, and the divine Agent in nature, revelation and redemption; that He convicts the world concerning sin, righteousness and judgment; that He regenerates, indwells, baptizes, seals, and anoints all who become children of God through Christ; that He further empowers, guides, teaches, sanctifies, and fills believers who daily surrender to Him; that He illumines Scripture for the believer who abides in Him.
We believe all men are by nature and choice sinful and lost: that man was the direct creation of God, made in His image and likeness; that by personal disobedience to the revealed will of God, man became a sinful creature spiritually separated from the Creator, the father of a fallen race which is universally sinful in both nature and practice, thus alienated from the life and family of God, under the righteous judgment and wrath of God, and has within himself no possible means of salvation.
We believe in bodily resurrection and eternal judgment: that the spirits of the saved at death go immediately to be with Christ in Heaven, that their works shall be brought before Christ for the determination of rewards; that the spirits of the unsaved at death descend immediately into Hades where they are kept under punishment until the final day of judgment, at which time their bodies shall be raised from the grave, that they shall be judged and cast into the Lake of Fire, the place of final and everlasting punishment.
Man can in no way save himself. Only the finished work of Jesus Christ is acceptable to God. Contrition, repentance, and faith are required of us by God, yet none of these saves us. All the power still lays with God to save or not to save. Our repentance and faith does not bind His hands and force Him to save us. He bound Himself by promising to save us when we do these things. Once a person surrenders to God's salvation plan, salvation is eternal.
We believe in right living and godly works: not as a means of salvation, but as its evidence and fruit; at salvation, God's Spirit lives with the believer's spirit making it alive to God and able to live out the good character of God.
We believe in the existence of Satan: who originally was created a holy and perfect being, but through pride and wicked ambition rebelled against God, thus becoming utterly depraved in character, the great adversary of God and His people, leader of all other evil angels and wicked spirits, the deceiver and god of this present world: that his powers are vast, but strictly limited by the permissive will of God who overrules all his wicked devices for good; that he was defeated at the cross, and therefore his final doom is certain; that we are able to resist and overcome him only in the armor of God, by the blood of the Lamb and through the power of the Holy Spirit.
We believe in the local church: that all believers should assemble and identify themselves in local churches; that a New Testament church is a local assembly of born-again, baptized believers united in organization to practice New Testament ordinances, to meet together for worship, prayer, fellowship, teaching and a united testimony, and to actively engage in carrying out the Great Commission. We believe in the independence and autonomy of the local church: that each New Testament church is free to govern itself without ecclesiastical interference, and should cooperate with other New Testament churches as the Holy Spirit leads; that it is responsible to follow the pattern of the New Testament church and is directly accountable to God.
We reject ecumenical practice and the charismatic movement as unbiblical.
